Moving into or out of a Gold Coast apartment

Apartment moves on the Gold Coast are mostly decided before the truck arrives. Lift bookings, body corporate rules and where the truck can park matter more than how many boxes you have. Sort these first and moving day runs far more smoothly.

Before you book

1

Ask your building manager for the move rules

Many body corporates set move-in and move-out windows, and some require a booking or a refundable bond. Ask for the rules in writing so there are no surprises on the day.

2

Book the lift and loading area

Reserve the goods lift and loading dock for the full time your move will take, plus a buffer. Lifts are shared with other residents, so the earlier you book, the better the slot.

3

Check what insurance proof the building wants

Many buildings ask for proof of the removalist's public liability insurance before approving a move. Mention it when you request a quote so the paperwork is ready.

Access and parking

1

Measure the truck's way in

Basement car parks often have height limits. Tell us the clearance and whether the dock suits a 4.5 or 6.5-ton truck, because it decides which truck we bring.

2

Plan for street parking

If there's no dock, check whether the street needs a parking or loading permit from the City of Gold Coast. Keep a clear spot for the truck as close to the entrance as you can.

3

Count the distance from the lift to your door

Long corridors and extra stairs add time. Give us your floor number, whether there is a lift, and roughly how far it is from the lift to your front door.

Protect the building and your belongings

1

Pad the lift and doorways

Lift and corridor protection is often a condition of approval. Ask your building manager whether they supply it or whether it is up to you.

2

Label by room and keep fragile items together

Apartments mean more trips in the lift, so label boxes by room and group fragile items to speed up the carry.

Pick your timing carefully

1

Avoid the busiest move days

Month-end and weekends are the busiest, and many buildings limit moves to weekdays or set hours. If your date is flexible, a mid-week move is easier to book.

In an apartment, the lift booking is the real moving date. Lock it in first, then build everything else around it.
